Local Community Service
Human beings live interconnected lives. This means that we have the opportunity to effect and witness positive changes in our local communities, whether that be in our school or with vulnerable members of our community such as the elderly, orphans and abandoned animals. At Branksome Hall we believe in the power of communities rising to support one another, for by meeting the needs within our communities we also meet the needs of our global community. Our girls are always encouraged to Think Global, but Act Local!
Case Study 1 - Language Proficiency Council
This student council aims to make students feel comfortable speaking English, a necessity for successful communication in an International School, without being afraid of making mistakes and peer pressure. To achieve this aim, the team have been creating initiatives that students can engage with to exercise their English skills comfortably in and outside of class. In The Language Ambassador Program, established by the Language Proficiency Council, students nominate themselves as ‘ambassadors’ who promote the use of English in their classroom and are readily identified by their Language Ambassador badge.
Case Study 2 - Green Narae
The Green Narae Academy was established by our students to share their abilities with younger students who do not have access to the same resources, within our community. Each week the group holds workshops with younger students at the Jeju local center, using different methods to teach them English such as painting, singing, and role-playing. The group is currently writing and preparing a book that they will be able to donate to these students so that they can learn outside of their sessions too.
